Frequently Asked Questions

Is Campus Edge affiliated with Coastal Carolina University?
At this time, Campus Edge is not affiliated with or endorsed by Coastal Carolina University. This independent relationship allows Campus Edge to offer its residents an independent living atmosphere, a broader amenity package and affordable rental rates.

What are some of the advantages of living at Campus Edge instead of the university provided housing?
Below are just some of the advantages living at Campus Edge:
1. Better Amenities. Our amenity package has been designed to provide every extra the modern college student desires in their community.
2. Larger bedrooms. Every bedroom at Campus Edge is approximately 11` by 12` or 132 sq. ft.
3. Private Bath and Walk-In Closet. Every bedroom at Campus Edge includes a private full-bath and a private walk-in closet.
4. Open 24-7-365. With the exception of University Place, when the university closes for vacation, so do the residence halls.

What are some of the advantages of living at Campus Edge instead of another apartment community?
In addition to the advantages stated above, Campus Edge also offers the following advantages over other local apartment communities.
1. Location. Campus Edge is closer to the main campus than any other private apartment community.
2. Brand New. Top to bottom, inside out, Campus Edge will be brand new and sparkling clean.
3. Individual Lease. See below.
4. All-Inclusive Rent Payments. See below.
5. Co-signer versus Guarantor. See below.
6. The staff at Campus Edge understands the demands put on college students and have designed a management style that helps our residents` transition into an independent living arrangement.

What is the advantage of an Individual Lease?
There are two types of leases commonly used to rent an apartment to multiple tenants:
1. Joint Lease. With a joint lease, each roommate is responsible for the entire rent. If a roommate leaves or fails to pay, the other roommate(s) are responsible for the entire rent due.
2. Individual Lease. With an Individual Lease, like the one we use at Campus Edge, there is a separate agreement for each roommate. If a roommate leaves or fails to pay, the other roommate(s) are not responsible for any portion of that roommate`s rent or utilities.

What is included in your All-Inclusive Rent Payments?
By bundling all the necessary utilities into your rent, you need only write one check to cover your rent, utilities, cable TV, and Internet access. This also means that they are ready and working the day you move in: no more wasting time waiting around for the cable guy to show up. Also, when combined with our All-Inclusive Rent Payments, you won`t need to split up your utility bills.

Will I need a co-signer (parental guaranty) to lease an apartment?
To rent an apartment you must be able to qualify. Campus Edge will accept a guarantor (usually a parent or guardian) if you cannot meet its financial qualifications. The guarantor must meet the financial qualifications and is equally responsible and liable for the terms of the Individual Lease. With a joint lease, utilized by most other apartment communities for college students, you will be required to have a co-signer (usually a parent or guardian) who can be held financially responsible for the entire lease, not just their portion.

What is the security deposit?
The security deposit is an amount of money you pay in advance, before you move in, that is held to cover any damages to the home. The complex keeps it until you move out. When you move out, the security deposit will be returned in full provided you return the premises in which you have lived in good condition. If part or all of the deposit is not going to be returned, an itemized list of repairs and expenses will be presented to you.

What is an application?
We use your application and application fee to run a credit check on you and/or your guarantor to verify that you meet our minimum qualifications.

Why do you charge a room reservation and application fee?
An application fee is a non-refundable fee the community charges for processing your application. Each property charges a fee to run your credit report. This is due when you put your application in to be processed.

Is there ample parking space?
Campus Edge has included at least one parking space for every bedroom. Most other communities, including University Place, only include two parking spaces per apartment, even for their three and four bedroom apartments.

How far is it to Campus?
Campus Edge is located 1/2 mile from the main campus.

Are you on the area`s bus route?
Yes, Campus Edge is on the Wacamaw Regional Transportation Authority bus route (Lymo) that services the university area. Plus, all Campus Edge residents can ride on Lymo to commute to and from campus for FREE!

Do I have to have renter`s insurance?
The landlord insures the building, not the buildings contents. You are responsible for insuring your personal possessions. Sometimes your parents` or guardian`s homeowners insurance will cover you while you`re away at college, but be sure to check. This type of insurance is not expensive and is well worth it.

Do you charge extra for use of the tanning booths?
No. Like all the community amenities at Campus Edge, the tanning booths are free to use for all our residents and are available on a first come first serve basis.

Where do I find information on utilities?
At Campus Edge, all of your basic utilities are covered by your rent check. You will never need to pay any additional monies for your water, sewer, basic cable TV, or broadband Internet access. Also included in your rent is an allowance for electricity. This allowance is based on the average tenant`s electricity usage. When you leave Campus Edge, you will be billed or credited back the difference between the allowance and the actual usage.
